Reference – Multifunction Sports Court 80 m², Spannberg, Austria

Not every sports court needs hundreds of square meters to work well. In many cases, the result depends much more on good planning, proper subbase preparation, and the right choice of sports flooring.

For our customer, we completed a multifunction sports court of approximately 80 m² using modular sports flooring Bergo Ultimate. The result is a clean, functional and visually organized space designed for both basketball and handball.

The goal was simple: create a functional sports area

The aim was not to build a large sports complex, but rather a smaller outdoor multifunction court that would be:

• safe for movement,
• easy to maintain,
• quickly usable after rain,
• and durable for long-term use.

The space was divided into two sports zones:

• one half for basketball,
• the other half for handball.

Thanks to properly planned court markings and color zoning, the result is a multifunction sports surface where different sports can coexist without visual chaos or overlapping confusion.

Color design and court markings

For this project, we used Bergo Ultimate flooring in:

• dark blue,
• light blue,
• light grey,
• and white.

The installation also included original Bergo marking strips for game lines. This means the court markings are not simply painted on the surface but are integrated directly into the flooring system itself.

The benefits are clear:

• lines do not wear out like standard paint,
• the court maintains a clean appearance over time,
• and the sports zones remain clearly visible.

The project also included the creation of playing circles and final sports markings.

The biggest challenge? The subbase

As with most outdoor sports surfaces, the biggest challenge was not the flooring installation itself, but the preparation of the subbase.

The customer initially prepared the area independently. However, after inspection, it became clear that the surface was not level enough for proper sports flooring installation. And this is exactly where many similar projects fail. A sports floor can compensate for many things — but not for a poor subbase.

That is why we completely reworked the area.

We used 0–2 aggregate and delivered approximately 750 kg of material, which we:

• added to uneven areas,
• leveled,
• watered,
• and compacted.

After curing, we installed geotextile followed by the Bergo sports flooring system itself.

Thanks to the correct preparation, the court now feels stable, solid, and reliable during everyday sports use.

This project once again showed that a good multifunction sports court is not about size — it is about details.

When the subbase is properly prepared, the right sports flooring is selected, and the space is thoughtfully designed, even a relatively small area can provide full sports functionality for many years.
